Participatory Epidemiology
Welcome
to the Participatory
Epidemiology (PE) website
The website contains:
The website was set up in early
2005 and currently hosts material on
veterinary uses of participatory epidemiology, drawn mainly from east
Africa and the Horn of Africa. In particular, the
site has information arising from two projects:
Participatory Approaches to
Veterinary Epidemiology (PAVE) Project
Implemented by the
International Institute for Environment and Development and the
African Union/Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU/IBAR), this
project conducted field research in southern Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania
to assess the reliability and validity of participatory methods. The
project ran from 1998 to 2000, and was funded by the Department for
International Development (UK).
Community-based Animal Health
and Participatory Epidemiology (CAPE) Unit
The CAPE Unit was set up in January 2001 in AU/IBAR, Nairobi,
with funding from the Department for International Development (UK) and
technical support from the Feinstein
International Center, Tufts
University.
The unit promoted policy and institutional change to enable
community-based animal health delivery systems, and promote the wider
use of participatory approaches and methods in veterinary institutions.
A range of awareness-raising, training and field experience activities
were supported by the unit up to mid-2004. The unit was absorbed into
the new Institutional and Policy Support Team in AU/IBAR in late
2004.
We'd be interested to hear from other
people and
organisations who are using PE. If
you would like to contact
us about the site, contribute a report or experience about PE, or have
problems accessing any of the material on the site, please contact: participatory-epidemiology@bigfoot.com
If you are interested in uses of participatory
epidemiology in human health, the London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine has information on its website. Click here for the
link to the LSHTM pages. |
